Design Notes
The Harlequin design studio explains their inspiration behind the Amazilia collection. “The initial idea began with research into fashion and interior trends; We noticed a pronounced tropical influence developing in fashion, with the use of exotic imagery and oppulent hues, whilst in interiors there was a move to darker, sultry tones and more maximalist prints - large scale tropical flowers, stylised foliage and botanical references.”

The Design Process
1. Our Amazilia adventure all began with Louise exploring the botanical Kew Gardens, studying vibrant tropical birds and analysing the world of insects, all whilst experimenting with various painting techniques. Colour boards were then created to separate the palettes within the range, this ensured all colours reflected the research and remained on trend!
2. Louise then got creative and took on a very intricate, painterly handwriting when developing her designs which enabled her to maximise the detail and colour within the designs. All of the designs were painted by hand (a timely process) - and the results were definitely worth it when you see the collection come to life.
3. The adventure continues when Amazilia hits production. We have amazing production teams within the factories who work alongside the studio to always ensure that the colours are perfect. We wouldn’t want it any other way!
4. Meanwhile, whilst the fabrics and wallpapers are busy in production, the Harlequin Styling team are meandering around the country searching high and low for props which echo the collection, this enables us to create beautiful photography on our shoots. For the Amazilia shoot, the Harlequin stylists jumped on a plane and flew to sunny Marseille.
